Title of Educational Material: Florida Community Association Journal-Community Gardener Column

Description: Series of horticulture-related articles for the Community Gardener section of the Florida Community Association Journal.

Target audience: The Magazine’s focus is homeowner and condominium owner association members, property managers, landscape management/maintenance professionals, pesticide application professionals, builders and developers, construction trades, attorneys, horticulture professionals, etc.

Issues addressed: Community Gardener articles provide information relevant to the targeted audience such as Ready…Set…Rain! about rainwater harvesting, Fertilizer Facts…Words to Grow By, and Florida-Friendly Landscaping Demonstration Gardens, which covers the nine principles, to name a few.

Distribution: Magazine circulation is 16,000 per month. The magazine is also available on line. Monthly articles can be accessed at: http://www.flcaj.com/artgrp.cfm?fpid=47

Resources: External funding where needed is provided by Tampa Bay Water.

Expected Outcome: Increased exposure for UF IFAS Extension and county Extension offices state-wide and resulting horticulture related knowledge gain by readership from the information provided.

Evaluation results: No specific evaluation method is utilized. We have received feedback from readership including Extension Agents in other counties.

FANREP Member Role: Created bi-monthly articles utilizing UF IFAS science based research.

Implications for Future Programming: Positive responses to the Community Gardener columns indicate a need to continue utilizing this horticulture education distribution method. Extension Agents have requested specific topic articles which have been published.
