Attracting Backyard Birds

This is a slide set for a two workshop series on attracting backyard birds. The first workshop discusses providing food for wildlife using natural plantings and artificial sources. The second workshop examines ways in which cover can be provided for birds using natural and artificial structures. The target audience is private property owners interested in creating backyard wildlife habitat. To date this slide set has been used by the author at >5 workshops. It has also been provided to >3 garden clubs for use at meetings. It will be made available in the coming months to Master Gardener and Florida Yards and Neighborhoods groups, extension agents, and program assistants wishing to incorporate it into there programming. The slide set also formed the basis for an extension publciation on birdfeeder selection.

When possible, this slide set is used in conjunction with a garden/backyard tour to highlight the issues and activities discussed in the presentation. Demonstration feeders, bird boxes, plants etc., are also used during the presentation to illustrate the issues and activities discussed.

There are plans for a follow up survey to more closely examine practices implemented in participant's home landscapes.
